This book provides a concise and accesible account of recent developments in chronobiology and of the implications and applications of chronobiological principles in pharmacy and medicine. The molecular biology and genetics of circadian clocks are considered, together with the neuroanatomy and neurochemistry of the vertebrate clock.
Recent advances in our understanding of entrainment mechanisms are described. Systematic consideration is given to the importance in pharmacology and therapeutics to the existence of biological rhythms in physiological and pathological processes.
The aim of the book is to raise awareness of the problems and potential benefits associated with biological rhythms.
