Produktinformationen zu „Cellist of Sarajevo “
Snipers in the hills overlook Sarajevo. In the streets below the inhabitants of the city strive to go about their daily lives, trying to second guess when and where the next bullet will strike. One man, a cellist, defies this game of 'Sarajevo Roulette' in memory of the city's dead: for 22 days he becomes a sitting target as he plays his cello in the street outside his building. Unknown to him, one young woman watches his performances more avidly than any other - she is a counter-sniper, detailed to protect the cellist from the enemy marksman who lurks nearby. Can she keep the cellist alive? And what will it cost her - in body and soul - to do so? Tense and heart-wrenching to its very last page, this novel shows how life under siege creates impossible and agonising choices. The human spirit is revealed in all its fortitude - and frailty.
