An echo of the wild, is a collection of deeply personal raw poems, rich in imagination and with unrestricted and unapologetic air to them.
They range in tone and in subject. The language used is precise, direct and provocative.
Over 95% of the collection was penned, mid 90s to late 90s, and it has been gathering dust ever since till COVID-19 pandemic brought it to life again.
Mtuweta has been writing both Swahili and English poems for as long as he could remember. Growing up he enjoyed reading Swahili poetry that have greatly influenced his writing.
'A goddess like me' was born as a remedy for depression, that was occasioned by a period of prolonged unemployment he went through after graduating from tourism school, in the late 90s.
Initially he would write the poems, just to express his feelings, and would then destroy them, but his mother (his number one fun) encouraged him keep them, which he did half-heartedly then. She also encouraged him to continue writing more poems.
Jacob is the author of 'Werevu Mwingi' a Swahili language story book that was published in 2001, by Focus Books Nairobi Kenya.
He still leads tours, he loves nature and has come to love writing too. He is currently working on a short stories book. Jacob, is a proud father of three (Eliud Mdari, Mercy Shighadi and Angelina Dudughu) and lives in Taita, south east Kenya.
