They had little in common except their gender and the sharing of one of their names. One was the ambitious and slightly unorthodox eldest son of a South Australian hotelier and the other was the meek and retiring second son of the King of England. This biography of Lionel Logue concentrates almost exclusively on his life in the Australian cities of Adelaide and Perth before he moves to London where he opens rooms in Harley Street with the intention of treating speech disorders. His first patient is the Duke of York. The British Empire is secured by a life-long friendship between two men from opposite sides of the planet. This book preceded the release of the movie The King's Speech, co-starring Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth in the roles of Lionel Logue and King George VI, and the book by the same name.
