Fate brought them together, well, that and old Gabe running Charlie up Billy's tree. At first Henry the keeper of the tree didn't want Charlie anywhere in his tree, but seeing these two little birds together, he knew this was the best thing for both of them. True, they were different, one was yellow and had lived in a cage all alone most of his life. The other was blue and lived in a tree all his life, surrounded by friends. But they also were the same; both were lonely and needed a friend, and most of all, they would become the others best lookout friend in all the kingdom. They would learn to rely on each other, have each others backs, and put their own life in danger in order to save the other. They would not only become the best lookout friends but they would become family, the very thing both wanted all their lives.
Autoren-Porträt von Rita Vanover
The author lives with her husband of fifty-one years in a small rural community. She has always loved to tell stories to her grandchildren. Even the work she has done shows her love of children. She has volunteered for CASA (court appointed special advocate), helping children through the court system when there is custody battles. She had worked for the Office on Youth program (preventing children from going into foster care). She also was a supervisor in a boys’ home. She and her husband were foster parents to six children at different times in their home. This story comes from a real-life situation: her cockatiel escaped his cage on her front porch. She wrote what she imagined the reason he wanted to leave, the dangers he would face, and the friends he would meet. She wrote that he would meet his best friend in the old pine tree in her yard. After all, everyone needs a best friend, even birds. The author lives with her husband of fifty-one years in a small rural community. She has always loved to tell stories to her grandchildren.
