Bone remodelling is remarkably precise, with bone resorption and formation tightly balanced in time, space and quantity. Each bone constantly undergoes modelling during life to help it adapt to changing biomechanical forces, as well as remodelling to remove old, microdamaged bone and replace it with new, mechanically stronger bone to help preserve bone strength. Calcium, an essential element that is only available to the body through dietary sources, plays a key role in bone mineralization. Different therapies like Inhibitors of bone resorption, SERMs, Bisphosphonates and Calcitonin are used to treat bone diseases.
