Rolf Rettich wurde in Erfurt geboren. Als Illustrator ist er Autodidakt. Er illustrierte unter anderem Bücher von James Krüss, Astrid Lindgren, Michael Ende und Christine Nöstlinger. Sein Buch "Der kleine Bär" erhielt den Ehrenpreis im Internationalen Bilderbuchwettbewerb. Margret Rettich, 1926 in Stettin geboren, studierte an der Kunstschule in Erfurt. Zunächst war sie freiberuflich in der Werbung tätig, später dann für Kinder- und Schulbuchverlage, Zeitschriften und fürs Fernsehen. 1997 erhielt Margret Rettich gemeinsam mit ihrem Mann den Großen Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Kinder- und Jugendliteratur für ihr Gesamtwerk. Sie verstarb 2013.
