Klappentext zu „Green Approaches To Asymmetric Catalytic Synthesis “
Nowadays, chirality is widely accepted as an important factor in molecular recognition processes and the biological activity of many pharmaceutical drugs and agrochemicals; this is confirmed by the continuous need for synthetic methods which lead to single or enriched enantiomers of such compounds. By presenting a review of the various and more recently developed approaches for both metal-transition and organocatalysis, this volume describes the development of ¿greener¿ asymmetric reactions which preserve stereoselectivity. The author summarizes the impressive amount of research that has been gathered within this field into three chapters focusing on: i)the search of alternative catalysts, ii) alternative solvents, and iii) alternative synthetic strategies and processes. For each topic, the fundamentals and some valuable applications are discussed.

Autoren-Porträt von Angela Patti
Angela Patti graduated as Chemist in 1985 at the University of Catania. Since 1988 she has been working for the National Council of Research and currently she also holds a position as Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Biomolecular Chemistry (ICB).During her career, she has gained experience in the chemistry of natural compounds as well as in the development of enzymatic resolution and desymmetrization processes in organic solvents for the preparation of some compounds with biological and pharmaceutical activity. Since 2000, after collaborating with Prof. P. Knochel at the Ludwig Maximilian University (Munich, Germany), her research has been focusing mainly on the asymmetric reduction and transfer hydrogenation of dicarbonyl compounds for the preparation of biaryl- and ferrocenyl-alcohols and diols, some of which have been converted into useful ligands for asymmetric synthesis. She is also involved in the study of atropisomeric stability of ferrocenyl-subtituted biphenyls, the development of enantioselective HPLC methods and microwave-assisted synthesis.
