Japanese ceramic tradition, one of the oldest, is today producing the most varied and exciting ceramics in the world. The Crueger collection is an encyclopaedic representation over the last three decades of this regional, stylistic and typological wealth, with over 400 examples from approximately 340 different potters and production plants. In addition to classical utensils for the tea ceremony, regional ceramic vessels and industrially produced items for daily use, there are also ceramic art works by internationally acclaimed contemporary studio artists and Japanese state designated "Living National Treasures". The ceramics in this inventory catalogue, presented for the first time completely and in colour, are breathtaking in the range of vessel shapes, glazes, decoration techniques and their high level of execution.
