Klappentext zu „The United Nations' Search for a Definition of Aggression “
The book offers a logical analysis of the United Nations' search for a generally acceptable definition of aggression. The book contends that a definition of a term or a concept is a preliminary statement subject to further assessments by judging the definition true or false, and by reasoning where the definition and the judgment are examined by inductive and deductive reasonsing. Until this is done, the Security Council cannot use the definition as it stands now and make binding decisions under Article 39 of the Charter with respect to the use of force in international politics.

Rezension zu „The United Nations' Search for a Definition of Aggression “
An important book about the understanding and the definition of the international disease of aggression. Going beyond the symptoms, Nyiri brings a penetrating reason and logic to the politically partisan United Nations deliberations and offers a practical analytical stepping-stone to a more peaceful world. (Henry Wiseman, University of Guelph) Nyiri's 'The United Nations' search for a Definition of Aggression' is a thorough analysis of a not easily digestable subject matter. His analytical approach permits insights that would otherwise be absent had he relied on a mere historical retelling. Nyiri has provided us with a valuable contribution to the literature on international organizations. (Wolfgang Koerner, Senior Research Officer, Research Branch, Library Parliament, Ottawa) Nyiri's masterful analysis...provides a fascinating look at, and a complete description of the legal and political processes of protracted low-key international negotiations in today's world. His multifaceted approach using logic as the basic framework of analysis shows that unless states are willing to put reason above short-term sovereign self-interests, a perfectly clear and legitimate legal question of defining aggression becomes political resulting in a non-solution after thirty years of intensive efforts. (Toivo Miljan, Wilfrid Laurier University)
