Numerous readings ofthe texts have been proposed, resulting in widely differing andsometimes contrasting interpretations. The present book summarizesand discusses these interpretations, and also presents a closetextual analysis of the texts. The book can serve as anintroduction or companion to the study of these poems, and shouldprove useful primarily to students of Old English literature, butit can also be of interest to anyone who would like to know moreabout these controversial, yet hauntingly beautiful gems of OldEnglish elegiac poetry.
