A Fierce Princess (The Poisoned Pawn Duet Part I) / A Poisoned Pawn Series (ePub)

A computer hacking kick ass princess. That's certainly something I haven't read before. I grew quite fond of small but fierce Anna pretty quickly.
The style of writing makes it easy to fly through the pages although it doesn't present much opportunity to experience the story in the depth I wished to find there. We don't really get to know the characters around Anna too well. This bothered me especially in the case of Logan. He seems too perfect to be true. I missed the flaws which make characters appear sympathetic and lively.
In addition to that the first half of the book reads more like a report and barely got into the scenes in detail. Therefore it was difficult to get emotionally involved. I would have liked to be sucked in. As a result I barely recognised the developing feelings between Logan and Anna nor did I feel the necessary anxiety of the looming threat. The only exception are Anna's flashbacks of her time with her now dead mom. Those moved me to tears.
The second half read more smoothly. If one ignores the lack of development in the relationship between Anna and Logan and just assumes it has happened beforehand, then the following erotic scenes are portrayed quite well.
The story ends with a, for me, quite abrupt cliffhanger. It still managed to make me curious though because the culprit remains unknown.

All in all I expected to be far more emotionally drawn in than was actually the case. The story lacks in depth and intensity but it might work as light reading at the beach. I'm not sure yet if I want to read the second book of the duet.
