Produktinformationen zu „BiteSize History: History of the English Bible (ePub)“
The history of the English Bible is unknown to many people who regularly read scripture. It is a story of deprivation, perseverance and achievement. The Catholic Church had maintained a grip on the Bible for a thousand years, ensuring on pain of death that the Latin version was the only scripture available. In the late 1300's and early 1400's scholars and theologians began to rebel against the Church's monopoly and began to produce 'English' Bibles, initially scribed laboriously by hand and using the Latin text 'word for word' as the source.William Tyndale was a man with the divine mission to make the Bible accessible to the common Englishman. Not satisfied with the Latin Bible as his source, he went back to the original Hebrew and Greek and produced an English Bible. After years of evading capture Tyndale was arrested and in 1536 he was burnt at the stake as a heretic under the orders of the Church and King Henry VIII, but his legacy lives on in the English Bible which today still comprises nearly 90% of his beautiful, resonant translation.
Autoren-Porträt von Anthony Holmes
Anthony (Tony) Holmes took up writing in 2000 when he retired after 40 years as a professional engineer. In his 'first career' after gaining a university degree he progressed to become the CEO of international engineering companies. He has been involved in the production of equipment for power generators, oil refineries, mining operations and marine installations. He has travelled extensively in America, Europe and the Far East, developing an appreciation of the history of various cultures.Tony's first written work was a historical novel based on fact, entitled 'Tutankhamun-Speak my Name.' The second edition of this epic story was divided into three volumes under the same title. Tony directed his attention away from ancient history to write about contemporary corporate crime and how a man, unfairly treated by big business got his revenge in 'Suitable Vengeance'.
Tony wrote a second book on ancient Egypt called 'Pharaoh Ay Remembers' about the successor to Tutankhamun, who is often suspected of killing the young king.
A fascination with the concept of time travel led Tony to write 'No Time at All', a fantasy that shadows a man travelling through layers of time to experience various events of the past. This book was followed by a modern day crime novel about the theft of ancient artefacts called 'The Osiris Enigma'.
Tony has written four children's books. The first book describes the early life of a female cat called Berry, born in a palace, and is entitled 'The Cat's Princess'. The following three books describe Berry's adventures.
With the increased popularity of eBooks and the rising cost of paper books Tony has taken to writing short histories for the eBook market, including 'South Africa' and 'Ancient Egypt' for the History in an Hour series and the 'History of the English Bible' for Collca.

small town in the Western Cape. He has two children and three grand children all of whom live in England. His future projects include re-editing his existing books for the eBook market, and of course, more writing.
