Produktinformationen zu „BiteSize Travel: Historic Treasures of Uzbekistan (ePub)“
This book is a fascinating insight into the author's journey along part of the Great Silk Road through Uzbekistan where he discovers a wealth of original and restored architecture dating back to the time when Genghis Khan came, conquered and destroyed it in the 13th century.Local hero Temur (Tamerlane) rebuilt the stunning minarets, mosques, madrassahs and mausoleums to make it the centre of his great 14th century Empire. The Russians and the British played out their 'Great Game' espionage activities there in the 19th century. The country was part of the Soviet Union until its collapse in 1991 and since then, as an independent country, Uzbekistan is now able to show its historical and architectural treasures off the world.
Autoren-Porträt von Peter Clarke
Peter Clarke was born in Bath, Somerset on 7 July 1957 and grew up in the picturesque village of Bathampton, near the banks of the Kennet and Avon Canal. He was educated at King Edwards School in Bath before embarking on a career in Banking with National Westminster Bank. After a period of 12 years working in the West End of London he was able to settle down in Hampshire. In 1996, he left the Bank and started to hone his writing skills as a Bid Writer and Project Manager for European Funded projects. This involved extensive travel across Europe to countries including Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, Italy, Germany and France. This also enabled him to pursue his passion for photography.
Having been self-employed in this field for 15 years, Peter has now changed direction completely and set up Peter's Pocket Guides and Photography, through which he publishes his own series of pocket sized travel guides based on his own travels and illustrated with his own photographs. Guides published to date include Coastal Norway, China, South Africa and now Uzbekistan.
He has also visited India on a number of occasions and has become fascinated with the history of this diverse country and the whole region of Central Asia which ultimately led to his trip to Uzbekistan.
You can find out more about Peter's publications and his own image gallery at www.peterspocketguides.co.uk
He has had photographs published in Hampshire Life magazine and travel articles in Wanderlust. He has also written and illustrated articles for various online publications.
When not travelling, Peter likes to relax by walking through the lovely Hampshire countryside. He is a qualified cricket umpire so many of his summer weekends are taken up standing in the middle of a green field. He is an avid sports fan following cricket, rugby union, golf and football in particular.
