However, in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, due to the internal disorder of increased official tax and foreign aggression of invasion of out-region trade and foreign religion, the peaceful land began to be restless. For a time, the government and local tyrants were complicit to cheat and commit violence towards local peasants. Some peasants headed by Jin Laowan were intent on nothing but profit and ploughed large area of fields to plant poppy, so as to enrich their family. However, when the economic interests was about to destroy them, they began to know that they were mocked by the government and the foreigners. For a time, the pride of peasants broke out with the potential national consciousness. Once again, they knew themselves and knew that they needed to contend against the social environment o move towards the real life while exploiting wasteland.
