The book is a selection of 195 chan poems (including one ci-poem) of the Huanglong sect by 128chan masters and lay Buddhists, with the name and short bio of the poet, the text, origin, annotations and analysis of each poem.Apert from the 30 or so well known works, poems selected have rarely been published; arranged chronically according to the "e;passing of the lamp of enlightenment"e; of the Huanglong sect; years are labeled first in the traditional Chinese way then in the Gregorian calendar, like "e;the fourth year of Dazhong in Tang dynasty (850)"e;. All rest numbers in the text are written in Chinese characters. Master Huinan, founder of the Huanglong Temple and his successors have been presiding over the temple for almost a century. But there is a conspicuous lack of chan poems by Master Huinan himself, only several verses by his disciple LCs Dongbing. Considering the continuity and completeness of the historical materials, the author attach two verses in the end.
