Stephen A. Berger, M.D. is affiliated with the Tel Aviv Medical Center where he was both Director of Geographic Medicine and of Clinical Microbiology. He also serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Tel-Aviv School of Medicine.Dr. Berger co-founded GIDEON Informatics, developers of the GIDEON (Global Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Network) web app and the GIDEON series of ebooks.Dr. Berger was educated at Brooklyn College in New York, where he received his B.A. and New York Medical College, where he received his M.D and was an intern and resident in Internal Medicine. His post graduate training included fellowships in infectious diseases at the Montefiore Hospital Center, Tufts-New England Medical Center and the New York V-A Hospital.In 1979, Dr. Berger became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He has been awarded the New York Medical College Teaching Award 5 times, and received the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 1998.Dr. Berger has published over 180 professional articles and books, including Introduction to Infectious Diseases and The Healthy Tourist. He is regarded as one of the foremost experts in his field, as evidenced by the his vast number of published articles, speaking engagements, professional appointments and awards.
