When young Professor Quinn Novak embarks on a quest to prove the truth behind fairytales he meets old Miss Lovelace who claims she can prove her ancestor Roberta lived during the time of witches, fairies and princes (the dashing, charming kind, not the dull, horsey-looking kind).
As Miss Lovelace excitedly recounts the misadventures of Roberta – her abandonment as a baby, her upbringing by a witch dumped at the altar (who educated her on witchcraft, swordplay and male-bashing), her doomed liaison with Prince Cary (and his subsequent butchering), and her journey to discover the fate of her natural family – Novak comes close to an ancient horrifying secret that threatens to destroy all who stumble upon it.
The moral of this tale is that the ‘ever after’ is never truly ‘happy’ and the fairytale is never truly over. . . .
