He dropped out of school at 14 to work on sailing barges, and then spent the rest of his life at sea--first in the Royal Navy, then as a delivery skipper, then as a daring adventurer. Jones wrote many books about his remarkable life, including Saga of a Wayward Sailor and The Incredible Voyage. He passed away in 1995. In 2003, Ragged Mountain Press published an unauthorized biography, Wayward Sailor: In Search of the Real Tristan Jones.
