Eileen Yuk-ha Tsang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences, City University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD in Sociology from the University of Birmingham, UK. Her research interests include Chinese studies, sex and gender, social stratification and mobility, globalization and cultural sociology. Her research interests are related to cultural and political sociology of China's emerging middle class, sociology of sex and gender, sociology of consumption and popular culture. Her recent publications about the new Chinese middle class include "The Chinese New Middle Class and Green NGOs in South China: Vanguards of Guanxi (Connections)-Seeking, Laggards in Promoting Social Causes?" [China: An International Journal 11, no. 2 (August 2013): 155–69 (with Pak K Lee)]; "The Quest for Higher Education by the Chinese Middle Class: Retrenching Social Mobility?" [Higher Education 66, no. 6 (December 2013): 653–68]; and The New Middle Class in China: Consumption, Politics and the Market Economy (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014).
