I’m a wife and a mum to two boys and have always had an interest with reading and writing. I live in Christchurch, New Zealand, and after the February 22, 2011, quake, rent became ridiculous, and I, my hubby, and our two sons had to move out and live with extended family. It’s just how Christchurch was at this time: family living with families just to keep a roof over our heads. After being a stay-at-home mum for eight years and having both sons now at school, I applied for every job I could. After many job applications and job interviews, I finally found work doing a paper run; and months later, I found more work with deliveries. It was my dissatisfaction of not having enough paid work to help us financially that had me look at alternative ways to make money. Already a qualified proofreader but not being able to afford further training, I looked at writing children’s books. Better to know what kids who love to read than a mum. I was fascinated by my six-year-old’s love for his pink and purple soft toy he named Batts, and it was him who inspired me to write this book.
