Als Buch bewertet
The story is set over 30 thousand years ago and has been very well researched by the author. It is full of fascinating details of life on earth at that time. The main character, Ayla, is orphaned by an earthquake and the book is basically about her survival and how she is taken in by a group of Neanderthals in spite of the fact that she is very different, one of the “Others”. It is full of wonderful descriptive passages.
Ayla is a strong woman who rises to every challenge and in spite of it taking place so long ago, it is still relevant and as such is an interesting heroine. There are many other characters and it is sometimes hard to remember who they all are (they have short names such as Ona, Oga, Ovra etc). The female names start with vowels and the male names with consonants which helps a little!
I enjoyed this book and I am really looking forward to reading the sequels.
