Hot tears were streaming down Symanthas face, making it difficult to focus her gaze on the fading lights across the river spread out in front of her. A scene she and her beloved had grown to love over these last six months.
I promise you, my darling, when we are married, every Friday night, we will come to this very place, take in the magnificent view, and then go on to that hotel there, see? He had said, pointing across to the dancing lights that shone over the river.
Her attention was attracted once more by the glinting of her ring. An anguished cry escaped from her lips, the pain in her chest too much to bear, and through the curtain of tears that were beginning to form once more, she saw a shadow of what looked like her beloved standing in front of her.
Oh, Toney, you came back! I knew you would, she laughed gaily, rubbing the moisture away from her eyes. Now the three of us can be together. She put out her hands to welcome him; a bright smile lighting up her face as she curled herself into his body and jumped off the cliffs into the churning river below.

Autoren-Porträt von Cindy Laura Mitchell
I was born and raised in Rhodesia (now known as Zimbabwe) in Fort Victoria (now Masvingo) and lived in a mining community near Bikita Minerals, where my mom and dad were farmers. I have two sisters and a brother whose name is John, who is the eldest of my siblings.Because the farm was so far away from the city, I was sent to boarding school. My first school was St. Peter’s Diocesan School in Bulawayo, which was also known as SPUDS. Thank goodness my sister Gaye (the second born) was at the high school over the road. For, at least then, I did not feel entirely alone. My younger sister Sharry joined me two years later. My next school was Umtali Convent (Mutari), and lastly, my high school education was completed at Gwelo (Gweru) Convent.
I have always been a rebel at heart (and still am) and, therefore, believe that the nuns made me a prefect and also games captain of the different sporting activities to keep me out of mischief.
I loved reading from a very early age, and my parents never had a problem in deciding what to give me for Christmas and birthday presents. If I did not have my nose stuck in a book somewhere, I was having fun in the sun on our beautiful farm. I thank God for my parents and the fact that I grew up out of the city in a loving home on a farm that was always ready and inviting, with all sorts of outdoor activities such as riding, swimming, and cycling, whenever I returned home from boarding school in the holidays.
I left Zimbabwe for South Africa in 1980, making it my home. Then, in August 2012, I moved to Australia where I now live in Kingsley, Perth, with my wonderful husband, Ron.
I have two sons, James and Adam, whom I love dearly.
