Activated microglia cells produces pro-inflammatory cytokines and neurotoxic mediators like nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin (PG) E2, superoxide anion, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-1beta, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF- ) which may stimulate brain lesion pathophysiology, produce neurotoxins and lead to the neuronal damage. However, Rumex abyssinica, Lipidium Sativum and Guizotia abyssinicus have natural phytochemicals with anti-inflammatory activities that can protect organisms from neurodegenerative disease.
