His Majesty coined the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) and suggested the same as an inevitable tool to measure the development of a nation. The four pillars of GNH which he has suggested are: 1. Sustainable and equitable Socio-economic Development 2. Environmental Conservation 3. The Preservation and Promotion of Culture 4. Good Governance.
