Pressezitat
"Death of a Science in Russia is primarily a collection of documents dealing with the rise of the new Soviet genetics and the defeat in Russia of Mendelian genetics. The articles are mostly translations into English of Russian papers with a few English originals. Almost the entire series has already been summarized in Plant Breeding Abstracts but is here presented in a form which will be of the greatest use to anyone wishing to ascertain as near first hand as possible the actual sequence of events. The articles included deal with the following topics: the early trouble over Agol and Levit about the time when Lysenko first came to the fore; Mitin's critique of the 1939 Genetics Congress in Moscow sponsored by the editors of Under the Banner of Marxism; the articles published in Science on Russian genetics and Laptev's attack on Zebrak for contributing; criticisms of the Russian developments by Darlington, Dobzhansky, and Muller; a selection of contributions to the July-August Session of the Lenin Academy of Agricultural Sciences, including Lysenko's addresses; and the recantations and resolutions that followed and some later foreign reactions."--CAB DirectKommentar zu "Death of a Science in Russia"
