Professor N. Katsilambros. Athens University Medical School, Laiko General Hospital, Athens, Greece. "N. Katsilambros" laennec@techlink.grNicholas Katsilambros M.D. is Full Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the First Department of Propaedeutic Medicine Athen's University School of Medicine and Director of the Diabetes Centre Laiko University Hospital, Athens, Greece. After completing his medical diploma and doctor's thesis in Athens, he did post-doctoral research in Germany, then was appointed clinical fellow at the Joslin Clinic in Boston. He later returned to Athens, where he was elected "Dozent" (Internal Medicine) at the University School of Medicine.
Professor Katsilambros is a member of numerous societies and is Vice-President of the Council of both the Hellenic Society of Internal Medicine and the Mediterranean Group for the Study of Diabetes. He was previously President of the Hellenic Diabetes Association. He is an active member of two Study Groups of the EASD, those on Epidemiology and Nutrition. His recent research focuses on the metabolic effects of olive oil. Professor Katsilambros was President of the 14th European Congress on Obesity in Athens in 2005 and Vice-Chairman of the local Organizing Committee at the recent EASD Congress.
He has been a member of the Editorial Boards of the European Journal of Internal Medicine and Hormone Metabolic Research, and is on the Editorial Committee or a Reviewer for many other international Journals, such as Diabetes Care, Diabetologia, Acta Diabetologica, Nutrition-Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases.
