Josef Koudelka wurde 1938 in Boskovice/Tschechoslowakei geboren. Seine bahnbrechenden Fotografien des Prager Frühlings 1968 machten ihn schlagartig berühmt. Seit 1971 ist er Mitglied der Fotoagentur Magnum. Er hat zahlreiche internationale Auszeichnungen erhalten und eine Vielzahl von Büchern und Katalogen veröffentlicht.
