As with other books in this series, there is a two-page spread for each movement (ism) on which there are two large images plus a description of the main characteristics of clothing styles at that time, names of makers or sub-styles, and places where you can view samples of the costumes. There is also a chronology of the various styles.

Shelley Tobin is Curator of Costume for the National Trust at Killerton House, and Assistant Curator for the Royal Albert Museum, Exeter. She is also consultant to the Calvacade of Costume Museum in Blandford Forum, Dorset. She has curated many fashion exhibitions, served on the committee of the UK Costume Society and currently sits on the National Trust's Costume Working Group. She has lectured and broadcast on many aspects of clothing and fashion. She is also the author of numerous books.
