In recent years, there is an increased interest in applying Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for typical communication and computing applications such as security surveillance, combat field assistance, environment monitoring and disaster relief management. In these applications, sensors are deployed in large numbers and operate in a collaborative way to collect data, even in unattended environments. Communication in WSN is restricted by energy, computation and memory capabilities of sensor nodes. Designing an efficient routing algorithm to achieve communication between the Stationary Base station (BS) and a cluster of sensor nodes in a specific region requires the BS to send individual messages to all sensor nodes. This approach consumes large amount of energy and bandwidth. Multicast communication reduces the sender's transmission overhead and bandwidth requirements, thus making it best suitable for communication in resource constrained WSN environment. This book provides a complete review on WSN multicast algorithms and introduces a novel approach for secured and energy-efficient multicast.
