Ann Cleeves, geboren in Herfordshire, arbeitete als Zwanzigjährige zwei Jahre lang als Köchin auf Fair Isle. Heute lebt sie mit ihrer Familie in West Yorkshire und ist Mitglied des «Murder Squad», eines illustren Krimi-Zirkels. Für «Die Nacht der Raben» wurde sie 2006 mit der weltweit wichtigsten Auszeichnung der Kriminal-Literatur ausgezeichnet dem «Duncan Lawrie Dagger Award».
