The drainage system in Egypt is exposed to different sources of pollution. Due to the governmental plan to use the drainage water in irrigation it was necessary to remove that contaminants. The use of aquatic plants as a tool to get ride of pollutants is result to be conceded. El-Khairy drain was selected to be as a pilot study because it is exposed to different sewage contaminants. Water Hyacinth, Duckweed and water lettuce were considered to study their effect on water. These plants were analysed to check the possibility to be used as a source of food for animals and fishes.
