He portrays multiple anatomicallyand functionally distinct memory systems and develops step by stephis hypothesis that stress modulates multiple memory systems infavor of rather rigid habit memory and at the expense of flexiblecognitive memory. Two experimental studies are presented that aimedto test this hypothesis.
