Chlorophyll/bacteriochlorophyll is vital for bridging Sun (energy) and life on the Earth via the process of carbon fixing photosynthesis carried out by plants and some microbes. Therefore, it might not be surprising that the mass production of this porphyrin molecule could be number one in the right season. The enzymes described in this book play rate-limiting roles in the biosynthesis pathway(s). Additionally, one of our purposes to review this studies is to focus on comparitive and evolutionary relations between key catalysts, such as DPOR and LPOR, and catalyst involved in another essential process called biological nitrogen fixation which is able to convert inert atmospheric nitrogen gas to organic ammonia as ultimate nitrogen source for life on the Earth. The origin and convergance evolution of DPOR and nitrogenase, leads to our current structural elucidation of LPOR and imagination of the existance of possible other versions of not-yet-discovered nitrogenase.
