The introduction of the use of continuous positive CPAP pressure (continuous positive airway pressure) has been associated with a decrease in the cases of alveolar rupture and chronic lung disease, in terms of respiratory distress syndrome ( SDR). Nasal CPAP is widely used for a variety of neonatal respiratory conditions, is established as an effective method of preventing extubation failure, is used in the correction of premature apnea and is increasingly seen as an alternative to intubation and ventilation for the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome of the newborn, in its variety of "hyaline membrane" (SDR), either as the only modality or as support for the surfactant factor administered as a strategy with INSURE technique (intubation, surfactant, extubate) or Exit with mechanical ventilation, significantly reduces the problems in the newborn, which fully justifies the diffusion of this respiratory support system.
