I was Chief Financial and Investment Officer at The Philadelphia Foundation (1991-1997) for most of the time I was a graduate student in the Dynamics of Organization Program at the University of Pennsylvania (1993-1999).In 1998, I resigned from The Philadelphia Foundation and moved to Florida to care for my aging parents. In 1999, I accepted a six month assignment as Interim CFO at the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin County, after which I joined the Florida Atlantic University Foundation (FAUF) as Chief Financial Officer.In all those positions, I handled the accounting for all gifts, including the endowment, and the investment process for the endowment. This day to day involvement with the endowment process was enormously helpful in researching and documenting My Masters Project.My Master's Thesis was completed when I was at FAUF. I tried to give a copy to my boss, Carla Coleman, Executive Director, FAUF, but Carla was clearly not interested.I sent a copy to FAU Dean John Wiesenfeld, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science. Dean Wiesenfeld gave it a thorough read and sent back a thoughtful report, including an excellent article from Change (July and August 2000), "Where Is Aggressive Price Competition taking Higher Education?" by Gordon C. Winston and David J. Zimmerman. These materials will be included in the Workbook designed to accompany this ebook.
