Gary Langford is the author of thirty-four books, including three textbooks, reflecting his talent as a teacher-writer. Others are ten novels, such as Vanities and Pillbox (Macmillan), Newlands (Penguin, reprinted by Xlibris, 2016), and Sohrab (Amazon Kindle); fourteen books of poetry with The Sonnets of Gary Langford (Xlibris, 2016) as his apt fourteenth collection; and four collections of his short stories, culminating in Lunch at the Storyteller’s Restaurant (Hazard, reprinted by Xlibris, 2016). He has also written five musicals, stage plays, and media scripts that have all been produced on the stage, radio, and TV. He was the founder and coordinator of Creative Writing at a Sydney university from a BA major to doctoral levels. A Teacher’s Guide to Writing grew from some of the creative writing subjects he founded and ran—including Writing Workshop, Writing Poetry, Writing Fiction, and Getting Published—that saw many of his students being published in literary magazines, anthologies, and their own books as writers. Some of the writing exercises are traditional, and others he originated and used in workshops that he ran. Writing quotes are his.
