Autoren-Porträt von Dianne DeSpain
From the time she was six, and achieved her first writing success in a poem titled, If I Had a Pony, which received rave reviews from her mother, by the way, Dianne DeSpain always knew she wanted to write something...anything. Sidetracked by a degree in music, then another one in nursing, followed by marriage, children and full-time stay-at-home mothering, she got off-track for a few years, but came back around to the writing desire when she noticed that her kids were growing up and getting lives of their own, and her husband's business was taking off leaving him less at home and more at work. In other words, life was moving on and Dianne wasn't. So, back to the writing thing. Not to be discouraged by the sure knowledge she wasn't a poet, Dianne ventured out to her first writing conference to see what she really wanted to do. Luckily, The Midwest Writer's Workshop in Muncie, Indiana defined something in her she didn't know she had, and six months later her first-ever article appeared in Woman's Day Magazine. Years later, with countless articles published in magazines like Family Circle, Ladies' Home Journal, Seventeen, Writer's Digest, Parenting, Better Homes & Gardens, Oxygen, Disney's Family Fun, Country Living and Midwest Living, to name a few, Dianne wrote her first book, A Writer's Guide to Getting Published in Magazines (finally out in electronic format, at long last!). Shortly after that first book, under the name Dianne Drake, she set out to follow another dream - no, still not poetry. In 2001, Dianne penned her first romance novel for Harlequin Books. Today, she is the author of thirty-five romance novels for Harlequin as well as seven non-fiction books for various other publishers. And while she loves reading poetry, she's finally decided to leave the poetry to the real poets, and stick to writing what she knows best - magazine articles and romance novels
