Case Study from the year 2024 in the subject History - Asia, grade: A, , course: History, language: English, abstract: Academic research has long focused on authoritarian governments because of their distinctive characteristics, which include robust control mechanisms, intense authority concentration, and severe limitations on political pluralism. Our analysis focuses specifically on the Chinese government of Xi Jinping as we examine the workings of one such institution. Understanding the implications of China's ascent to prominence in politics and the economy necessitates understanding China's autocratic political system. Authoritarian governments are characterized by a lack of democratic institutions, limitations on political freedoms, and a concentration of power among a few people. To maintain control, these regimes use a variety of strategies, such as censorship, monitoring, and the stifling of dissenting opinions. One must understand the mechanisms behind such regimes to appreciate their impact on domestic and international affairs. The extraordinary concentration of power that started with Xi Jinping's election as president in 2013 has continued since Deng Xiaoping's leadership ended in 2011. Studying Xi Jinping's administration is essential due to the revolutionary changes it brought about in China's political environment. Xi's authority consolidation significantly impacts foreign policy, human rights, and governance. Among the significant policy changes Xi Jinping's government implemented are the removal of presidential term limits, more assertive foreign policy, and prompt action against corruption. These adjustments emphasize the importance of carefully examining Xi's governance to identify trends, identify root reasons, and forecast possible future directions. In the following sections, we will look at Xi Jinping's ascent to power, the political systems that support authoritarian rule, the means of control, the impact on the economy and society, and the foreign policy of China and North Korea. This comparative study aims to provide a more comprehensive view of authoritarian government in various geographic situations.
