Much of the information contained in this volume has been reproduced from the Final Report on the Survey and Settlement operations in Purnea (1901-1908) by Mr. J. Byrne, I.C.S. The volume presents the generic information about Purnea relating to the natural divisions, river system, climate and temperature. History of Indigo industry has also been included, elaborating on the relationship between planters and raiyats, manufacture, and indigo-seed growing.
