David Gompert (Master of Public Affairs, Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University) is formerly president of RAND Europe and Vice President at RAND. He has held a variety of positions at the State Department and White House, including Senior Director for Europe and Eurasia on the National Security Council staff. He is currently Director of National Security in the Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority.Kenneth I. Shine (MD, Harvard Medical School) was the director of the RAND Center for Domestic and International Health Security when this research was completed. He has recently assumed the position of Executive Vice Chancellor, Health Affairs, with the University of Texas System. From 1992 to 2002, he was president of the Institute of Medicine at the National Academy of Sciences. Steven N. Simon (MPA, International Relations and Economics, Princeton; MTS, History of Religion, Harvard) is a senior analyst at RAND with expertise in the Middle East and terrorism. He has held a variety of positions at the State Department and served at the White House as Senior Director for Transnational Threats on the National Security Council staff.
Glenn E. Robinson (PhD, Political Science, University of California, Berkeley) was a senior political scientist at RAND when this research was completed. He is currently an associate professor of defense analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
C. Richard Neu (PhD, Economics, Harvard University) is director of the RAND-Qatar Policy Institute. His expertise includes macroeconomics, international economics, and terrorism.
Jerrold D. Green (PhD, Political Science, University of Chicago) is director of the RAND Center for Middle East Public Policy and a senior political scientist. His research interests include U.S. foreign policy, Middle East politics, sociopolitical change in developing countries, terrorism and political violence, and Mediterranean security.
