Widely-discussed in the theory of classical point charges are the difficulties of divergent self-energy, self-accelerating solutions, and pre-acceleration. This book explains the theory in the context of quantum electrodynamics, the neutral particle limit, and coherence with neighboring theories.
Fritz Rohrlich has conducted intensive research on quantum electrodynamics and on the classical theory of the electron. A professor of physics at Syracuse University, Dr. Rohrlich has also taught at the University of Iowa, Princeton University, and Cornell University. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University and did post-doctorate work at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. Dr. Rohrlich is co-author of The Theory of Photons and Electrons (Springer-Verlag, 1976) and the author of From Paradox to Reality (Cambridge University Press, 1987). His current research interests are in the foundations of quantum mechanics and the philosophy of the physical sciences.
