Pictorial history with over 400 images of the Consolidated PB4Y-1 Liberator and the PB4Y-2 Privateer, World War II patrol bombers of the U.S. Navy derived from the Consolidated B-24 Liberator. The Navy had been using unmodified B-24s as the PB4Y-1 Liberator, and the type was considered very successful. A fully navalized design was desired, and Consolidated developed a dedicated long-range patrol bomber in 1943, designated PB4Y-2 Privateer. Also included is coverage of the RY-3 Liberator Express transport version of the PB4Y-2, R2Y Liberator Liner airliner, RY-1 Liberator Express passenger plane, and the history of Patrol Bombing Squadron VPB-106, "e;The Wolverators,"e; which flew both the PB4Y-1 and PB4Y-2 during World War II. 413 photos, illustrations and drawings.
