Since the late 1970s, Chinese research on political communication has been developing rapidly. Research in this field is very extensive. Just in terms of disciplines, it includes politics, communication sciences, journalism, sociology and psychology. Since there are great differences between Chinese political system and western electoral politics, Chinese research on political communication is also very different from western political communication which focuses on electoral studies. Different research objects lead to fundamental differences in major concerns between Chinese and western research on political communication. Chinese research on political communication mostly involves subjects of political communication, political functions of mass media, political communication thoughts, international political communication and other aspects. Research on subjects of political communication mostly focuses on dissemination and communication mechanism of the Communist Party of China, governmental news spokesman system and other issues; research on functions of political communication mostly focuses on image-building function and political socialization function of mass media; research on political communication thoughts is mostly to explore political communication thoughts of Chinese ancient scholars under the slogan of so-called localization of communication sciences; although research on international political communication focuses on wider scope, it mostly focuses on features and effects of international political communication, debates on new order of international communication, cultural imperialism and other issues. Political economy of communications mainly discusses issues of political and economic structure of the world and influence of authority on communication industry of every country, communication and cultural domination, communication pattern of the world and other aspects.
