Too often, those on the outside see the church as an example of judgment and exclusioneven hate. Is this a fault of nonbelievers, or could it be a failure of Christians to show compassion and empathy for all Gods childrento be the hands and feet of Jesus? When the church focuses exclusively on saving the lost from hell, without demanding a total submission and transformation to selflessness from selfishness, it does a disservice to Gods kingdom on earth. Faith in and a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is not the finish line. It is the start of a lifelong struggle to humble ourselves as Jesus did. If we would make meeting others needs our primary desire, the world might sit up and pay closer attention and maybe even be transformed.
Autoren-Porträt von Bob Slate
Bob Slate is a Jesus-follower and an award-winning journalist who has worked as a reporter, editor, and columnist at newspapers in Illinois, Tennessee, and Alabama. He has covered politics at the local, state, and national levels. While he is a strict opponent of government interference in religious matters, Bob firmly believes people of faith—especially Christians—have a duty to let their personal convictions shape their political principles. In more than twenty years of journalism, Bob has observed a near-ubiquitous assumption among members of the media that “evangelical Christian” equates to “political conservative.” This is his attempt to dispel that misconception. Bob and his wife, Maryemily, live in the Finger Lakes region of New York. They have three adult children.
