I was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. My environment was filled with violence, crime and poverty. Basketball was my escape from the traps of the inner-city. After high school I was recruited to play for a Junior College in California. Several years later, I became a single parent of three children. Through my experiences growing up in New York, and the journey of being a single parent, I've learned hope is the key to overcoming life's challenges. I currently work as a Substance Abuse Counselor in a California Department of Corrections Facility, where I have the opportunity to share my hope, strength and courage. I am available for poetry readings and motivational speaking engagements. I can be reached at ScottieHarris2013@gmail.com.
