As my overloaded truck made its perilous way up the winding country road, I felt it begin to take hold of me. The icy chill in my stomach. The fatigue. The muscle aches. My brow was dripping sweat. As much as I hated to admit it, there was no doubt about it. I was coming down with something.
And an early season snowstorm was gaining on me, too.
By the time I rushed to unload my truck, the first snowflakes were already falling. They were huge and felt perfectly cooling on my flushed skin. I was feeling dizzy and faint. And beyond dehydrated. I poured a big glass of pristine well water and gulped it down greedily.
And that was it. The last little bit of effort required to bring in the rest of the boxes was enough to take me over the edge. I was shaking and my vision was blurry.
