Runes - this is the pre-Christian writing of the Slavs (before Cyrillic). Runic writing existed among the ancient Slavs even before the start of their Christianization. A number of studies and historical sources put forward the version that initially the ancient Slavic priests owned the runes. A number of historians even put forward the version that the runes were given to the Slavs by the gods.
