Michael J. Freeman was born with brain damage and considered "retarded" (probably autistic today) when he entered school. He was placed in Special Ed. But by thirteen, he was a recognized genius by winning a first prize science grant in the National Westinghouse (later called Intel) science fair. At 30, he had his Ph.D. As he spoke publicly, the genius label came into focus.

Soon he created the first computers that talked. Since he lived in the Bronx, after investigation, Time Magazine called it the "Marvel of the Bronx." Next, as shown by the stalwart magazine of the toy industry, he created smart toys with the 2-XL Robot series.
