Hazel Hutchins Wilson (April 8, 1898 - August 20, 1992) was a librarian, educator, book reviewer, and author of books for children and young people. Born in Portland, Maine, she wrote a popular series of children's books featuring Herbert, a character based on her son. She also wrote about geographic features, such as the river Seine, and historical figures, such as George Washington and Washington Irving. She earned her B.A. from Bates College and a B.S. from Simmons College, Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Wilson was a professional librarian at the high school and college level and a lecturer at George Washington University, Washington, D.C. She died at the age of 94 in 1992.
